I am an avid believer on all things are better when shared. When I started building this business I immediately thought to myself... I want to donate some of my profits to people in need.
Living in Costa Rica has given me a front row seat to some of the difficulties families face here in terms of opportunity, income, affordability of programs for kids, clothes, food, etc. When I was introduced to Cepia, a non-profit organization based in Costa Rica, I immediately wanted to help.
Laetitia Deweer, the co-founder and Vice President, started Cepia to promote culture, health, sports and education for children and teenagers and their families from poor backgrounds in the communities of Guanacaste, Costa Rica. Laetitia along with her self-less staff puts in time to open doors to local children who don't have access to much outside their front door.
They started an after-school program that now has 700 children..that's right, 700!!! How wonderful is that! These children can play basketball, go swimming, do jui jitsu, participate in art classes, surf lessons, soccer games, and learn english all around different communities in Guanacaste.
They also have a girls club which focuses on social & emotional issues, difficult families, abuse, learning issues, etc. This is a 40 week program put on by Cepia's wonderful volunteers.
I absolutely love our community here in Tamarindo! We have an exciting Surf Film Festival this weekend (March 13th-14th) and they are giving ALL proceeds to benefit Cepia. If you're in and around the area stop by for some fun! They have two evenings of surf films, food, music, and raffles, with an awards ceremony on Saturday night for the Robert August Surf & Turf.
