When my son Kai was born, I found that I loved the concept of attachment parenting. Kai was so much more calm when he was snuggled in my arms or in a carrier. The attachment parenting style was developed by the famous Dr. Sears. The idea is that infants are born with a strong instinct to be near their mother. The more they are held and physically close to their mother or primary caregiver in their first year, the more safe and secure they will feel. And from this place of security, an infant will feel confident enough to explore the world and develop their independence. I have definitely found this to be true with my two children.
